The last weekend I was given the opportunity to do one of the most interesting pieces of work I think I have ever done. I really wasn't sure what I was going to; I just said 'yes' to a friend when they asked if I was free for a trip to Khayelitsha.
I helped with making of a documentary that is being made looking at why young people use drugs (hard and soft), alcohol and smoke cigarettes. Most of the work involved videoing the young people talking about why they use their drug of choice and how they got started. After the shoot I had the opportunity to take some behind the scenes shots capturing the young people, with their guard down, interacting together.
Everyone at home was slightly concerned when I came home smelling of substances that I shouldn't have been. What a privilege though to understand more about culture, society and in particular young people.
