Project Dignity works with young girls in primary schools for whom sanitary products are far too expensive to use. I had the opportunity to spend the day with the team as they visited two schools north of Durbanville in farming communities.
They distribute Subz Pants and Pads to the girls and give them basic education in sexual education and puberty. The Subz Pants and Pads were created to reduce the rate of absenteeism and school drop outs among young girls.
They are eco-friendly, re-usable sanitary pads which clip onto ladies underwear and do not need to be disposed of. They are simply washed and dried in the privacy of the home and re-used the next day.
Subz Pantz and Pads are packaged in Subz Packs consisting of 3 pieces of underwear with clip on studs, 9 re-usable sanitary pads and an educational booklet. The pack will last the young lady for 5 years, as long as she only wears the panties whilst menstruating.
It's such a great project and makes such a difference in the lives of the young girls it works with. And they were such a great team to spend the day with as well.
