These images are a few months old now, but it was such a fun project I just had to share it.
Joan Wright, in association with Mhani Gingi, has been supporting ECDs across Cape Town. A teacher for many years, and now an owner of a Kumon franchise, she spends the rest of her time arranging support and training for ECD principles in communities across Cape Town.
Over the course of a couple of days we travelled around Philippi and the surrounding areas meeting some of her principals. They are incredible women, giving everything to improving education for children in the township communities. They have given up space in their homes, they have put all their money, and all their time into running their pre-schools. One of the women I met runs a cafe nearby to fund her pre-school.
There's a great organisation that has made connections with these pre-schools and are helping them develop by building new facilities for them, as well as providing breakfast for the kids each day. The Afri-CAN Charity is doing some really impactful work in the communities which will leave a legacy of education facilities. They are also doing some other very interesting work around Cape Town, and in other places, and are definitely an organisation to follow.
This is why I love my work so much. I get the opportunity to see what is happening in communities across Cape Town and meet some incredible people along the way.
